I have a v5r4 820 model that failed. Error code in display is 284C3203 which pointed to I/O problem for either system board or Disk controller. I replace both and the only way I can get past this error is by using the new disk card with the new RAID memory. The old RAID memory card seems to have retained/created the problem. Short of a fresh install, any solutions? Also, how do I IPL from a tape system save?

HI Spadasoe,
For IPL using Tape System Save, Change the Panel to D M
Then start the system it will start from tape.

Hiya,

When you move disk controller cards between systems, it is vital that the cache is cleared before you do so otherwise you can/will end up with damaged objects. The best way to do this is to reinstall the card in the system it came out of and then power it up then shut it down cleanly. As it nears the end of its shutdown look for D5500xxxx on the control panel, when you see that code it is writing the cache out to the disks. Then you can reinstall it in your other system and power up.

Hope this helps

Gordon

Don't forget when restoring from an opt 21 or booting to tape you still need the 1st cd in the OS set. You need the LIC in order to locate your tape drive to boot to it. I don't know if this has changed with V6R1. Good luck
