iSeries crashes when saving to save file

iSeries, AS/400, SAVF, IPL, Crash, V5R4

Hi,

We've come across a problem when we save to a *SAVF on our iSeries. We use the save to save files a lot on our system and it's always worked fine. In the last few weeks however, the system has crashed twice (with an immediately re-IPL after abnormal system end) when saving to save files and gives a message that the save file is damaged. We've deleted the damaged saves file both times to be sure that it doesn't cause the same problem again. Luckily this has been limited to our test system until now, but we're a bit nervous that this will also happen on our live system.

We're running on V5R4M0 with the latest PTF's applied. We've put a call in to IBM for this but heard nothing as yet. Has anbody else come across this problem? Has anyone got any ideas that could help?

Thanks in advance,

Regards,

Martin Gilbert.

Have you checked the disk space on the machine and how large the save file is? I have seen where the save file gets damaged it the system runs out of space before.

Hi,

System was at about 80% and had only just started saving to the save file.

Hi,
We have encounter problem, which I think is almost the same with yours.
BUt the difference is the system is not automatically IPL, it says that MSD is in progress, it’s the clue that says the disk is full on capacity.
Are you sure that ater saving the object to save file, DASD increase is minimal?
If not, better do cleanup first or do Reorganize Files or much better if can do reclaim storage

Hi,

We don’t get as far as the save unfortunately - the system crashes almost immediately when it starts to save to the save file.
