iseries backup solution,

In a data center with unix boxes and a partitioned iseries. Is there a solution to succeffuly backup these mixed platforms or does the iseries require it's own solution apart from the Unix boxes ?

Could you be a little more specific on what you want? The Iseries can be backed up either by command, a command structured utility like BRMS or a thrid party vendor backup utility like Robot save. If you are looking for one vendor to back up UNIX and Iseries data I’m not sure. I would look for the solution(s) that can create reliable data that can be restored consistantly in a fairly easily manner within your budget.

    Are you talking hardware or software sharing? (or both) You can certainly use the same hardware to backup your Unix and iSeries servers and I believe Tivoli Storage Manager will fill the software role, as well. Take a look at http://www-03.ibm.com/servers/storage/index.html which is the IBM Totalstorage homepage.

    Maybe the question is backwards. The iSeries can backup its native library system, directories in the /root file system, its /QOpenSys UNIX file system, etc... Maybe the question should be "do the Unix boxes require their own solution apart from the iseries ?" Tom
