As far as my organization is concerned, we are content with virtualized desktops/servers but the storage will remain as is. As the whole virtualization thing booms and security is revved up, and the normal process of any new technology is executed, i’m sure it may be more seriously considered.

Our use of virtualization is generally connected with creating desktop systems that will operate older equipment via obsolete or proprietary technology. Storage is conventional, and will remain so for the foreseeable future. Like Schmidtw above, I’m going to wait for the technology to stabilize a bit.
Good Luck!

I assume you mean datacenter virtualization for consolidation purposes… and most places I’ve worked that use VMWare (or whatever) already have a centralized storage solution so they can boot virtual workloads on any host.

So far, we have not used virtualization for our servers, but for desktops in similar situations than the ones mentioned by Flame above, and thus, storage has not become an issue in relation to virtualization.

We use virtualization very heavily in our Dev and QA environments. We also use it a lot for our office production systems (DCs, App Servers, Sharepoint, File Servers, DHCP, DNS, etc).

Currently our Production environment is hosted at a colo back east, and nothing is currently visualized. We are working towards moving to a pretty much all virtualized environment supported with a SAN backend.
