[o:p]Is virtual sensor a proprietary of Cisco? If not, then could you tell me the name of other companies which are using virtual sensor in their IPS? [/o:p]
The most mature sensor technologies in my opinion would have to be Johnson Controls. There are several sensor types, with various capabilities. For intrusion prevention, there are also several manufacturers, all of which have been doing these systems for many years. Cisco does have products that interface with the majority due to the fact that the protocols are very mature and interoperability is well tested. I would suggest a Web search on intrusion protection systems. There are a bunch out there, find the one that best suits your needs. Keep in mind that there are various interfaces available, but most can interoperate one way or another.

The term ‘virtual sensor’ sounds more like a marketing term than anything real. I suspect many other manufacturers have the same thing, but call it something else.
As Chigbie says, have a look at the different manufacturers, and see what they really offer in terms of function, rather than marketing promises. There are several independant tests done by various bodies, and these are a good place to start (beware of some of these as the results are paid for by one of the suppliers, so the results are skewed to favour their equipment !) .
