Is Twitter a waste of time?

Does anyone have numbers to prove effort spent "tweeting" is worth it? Or is it something that is just expected nowadays?

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

Recently I am not seeing that much of success on Twitter. They have been
on a banning spree lately. I had multiple Twitter accounts and many of
them got banned for no reason whatsoever. But, it is still one of the
best social networks to get traffic from and is here to stay.

You are dead wrong. A recent study has found that followers on Twitter are more active as opposed to FB fans. It's just that you need to use hashtags very efficiently and atleast tweet 3-4 times on a daily basis.

I have got better engagement using Twitter. It is because I have found Twitter to be an engaging platform. Not the best around in terms of sales but it definitely helps in brand promotion.

Is Twitter a waste of time?

It depends on what you use it for, and how you use it.

I do not think it's a waste of time. Many of the people do not know how to post tweets with the proper hashtags. Also, they tend to make overuse of hashtags whereas they should be focusing on using only a maximum of two hashtags. Definitely it helps in branding if not lead generation.

That's a basic research question, rather than a technical question that we can help solve. If any numbers exist, they'll be found through Google searches about the subject. It's not a technical question that we can help solve.

Further, any numbers you find would have to be thoroughly vetted for validity, and the methodology is almost certain to have flaws that contribute to unreliability.

It's actually good for promoting your brand but if you are expecting sales from it then I am sorry to say it wont get you any. Make sure to follow people related to your niche only.

It depends of the context: are you in a B to C business, B to B, a media? Usually, twitter is mostly a good channel to influence or to gain notoriety.

IT pro here for 30+ years and have no twitter account. Have not seen a real business benefit. More of just meaningless social interaction in my opinion. Also have no Snapchat or Instagram.
My life is not that interesting to others.

There is no good answer. The question needs to be worded much more clearly.

Because any given individual may make a decent living by doing nothing but 'tweeting', it can hardly be said to be a waste of time. Many people profit directly from doing so.

OTOH, you might 'tweet' nothing of use to anyone, not to sponsors nor even yourself. And if you get no personal benefit, then it's reasonable to think of it as a waste of time.

Depending on the current scenario, this is not a wasting of times. People wants more focus/more advertisements and twitter is a medium that can help to flurish business also. More and more people are joining twitter day-by-day. And if you advertise your products, this is a good medium also.
