Is there Blog software for the iSeries?
Our users have asked us to set up a blog on our intranet. It will be for internal usage only as a means to collect and share ideas across the organization. We are a small/medium iSeries (V5R4) shop and run our intranet on the iSeries through Tomcat http server. The intranet has many html pages and cgi type applications running on it. We have some java/linux experience from our web applications but IT doesn't manage the website/content management system. Being an inexperienced blogger, I'm not sure what options are available and thought I would ask what other iSeries shops are using and have implemented for internal use only. Any helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Answer Wiki:
Seems like it should be possible to set up Wordpress on your iSeries - in the IFS, of course. It is free, open source and easy to set up. Of course, for that you'll need PHP and MySQL. Also Free. Wordpress is a PHP app and uses MySQL as a database. Do a Google search for "MySQL on iSeries" - or "MySQL on i5OS" - I've seen at least one example of how to install MySQL 5. Also, I believe that the iSeries is a supported platform for PHP. If you want to play around with it all before you try loading it on your iSeries and you have a spare Windows box - download and install <a href="http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html">XAMPP</a> and then download and install <a href="http://wordpress.org/">Wordpress</a>. And let us know if it all works! Regards Mike
