Q:
Is there a way to sync the Outlook 2003 client on my notebook with the company Exchange Server in this setup?
My new employer has deployed Exchange Server 2003 and Outlook 2003 clients. They also have Outlook Web Access available. As I am on the road almost full time, I log on to our shared/hosted applications through a Citrix ICA Client. They will not allow us to use a VPN to sync-up. (Too much security risk) They tell me I can only get sync'ed when I am physically connected to our network. Is there a way to sync the Outlook 2003 client on my notebook with the company Exchange Server in this setup? Any help/insight would be greatly appreciated.

No, the only way that you can synchronize your information with Outlook directly against the server is while connected online or in cached mode. There is a feature in Exchange Server 2003 and Outlook 2003, RPC over HTTP(S) that enables users to synchronize with Exchange Server externally without the need to establish a VPN session first. Your company may want to look into this, as a solution and if they are particularly paranoid, this can be combined with PKI for a more hardened solution.
