Is there a way to send notifications to entire domain without messenger service

I have been asked to provide a way to send a popup notification to all of the systems in the domain. We have disabled the messenger service on all of our systems because students were using net send to send messages to each other. I have also read that this service should be disabled on any system communicating with the internet. Is there a utility that will allow all of the systems to receive a message from some central server but not send one? Thanks. rt

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

I’d suggest that you look into one of the IM packages that are intended for a corporate environment – meaning that YOU control where (and with which server) the clients can communicate.

Bob: Thanks for the response. I was afraid I would have to do that. I ended up sending emails to over a dozen vendors. One responded with a package that looks promising. Here is their link for anyone who might be interested: http://www.vypress.com/products/auvis/ We have downloaded it and will try it out. In case anyone is wondering why we need something like this, it's a kneejerk reaction by management to the virginia tech episode. They want to be able to send out a warning in case anything like that happens here. Thanks again. rt
