Is it possible to allow access to a user only to view a spool file and restrict him from deleting the spool file

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

If your users do not have any special authority (*SPLCTL, *ALLOBJ), then you can try the CHGOUTQ command. Prompt F4 then F9, scroll top the bottom and change the Display any file DSPDTA and Authority to check AUTCHK parms.

But note that if ‘user’ is also the owner of the spooled file, then DSPDTA and AUTCHK won’t help.

The answer requires knowing the environment and what elements are available to change.

Yes and no. It depends on the setup of elements such as outq attributes, on the accessibility of commands including network access, on whether or not the user is the owner of the spooled file and on the accessibility of the *SPLCTL special authority. If various combinations of those allow deletion and those elements cannot reasonably be changed, then the answer is "No." E.g., if a user has *SPLCTL plus access to WRKJOB, then it's not practical to find a way to prevent deletion of any spooled file on the system. (The WRKJOB command does not have to run against the job that created the spooled file you want to protect.) Without knowing the environment, it's very difficult to determine a way that's appropriate. Tom
