Is it possible to install esx on a vmware vm?

VMware ESX, VMware, Virtual Machines

Not having a spare machine I'd like to install an eval esx onVM Workstation. I am encountering a problem during install which states that it cannot find any compatible NICS.

1. Is it possible to run esx in a vm?
2. If yes, is there a workaround for the nic incompatibility?

Yes, you can run ESX Server inside Workstation 6. See this post: http://blogs.vmware.com/vmtn/2007/07/you-got-your-es.html

The technique was developed independently on VMware Communities and xtravirt.com

if your machine is not dual core dont bother, it will take an hour or so to do anything and after that steal all your mem, if dual core runs ok but watch the memory.

Very interesting article. Anyone have any real world applications outside of a demo/test environment?

I can;t see any, but would be interested in hearing about them.
