Is it possible to connect PHP to iSeries OS/400?

I need to desperately connect our website (which uses PHP5/Apache 1.3/OpenBSD 4.1) to our back end system that is running on a iSeries OS/400 V5R3. We need to access several tables that are stores in there. But, I've run into some problems.

First, the DB2 extensions / software from IBM can only run under Linux. The second problem is getting everything to run natively under OpenBSD. I thought about running a second server that's running CentOS with DB2 already installed. Does anyone think that's a good idea? Are there any other options? Thank you.

Not much help but maybe this will trigger other replies ...

I wrote a PHP that reads/writes to AS/400. We had (I left that company) the web site residing on a different AS/400. I think it just used DB2CONNECT. Needed the alias name of the "data" AS/400 (I don't think it liked IP address).

It did allow switching back & forth between different "data" AS/400 s (we kept all Canada data on a separate box).
