We are not there yet, but the concept of on demand computing through virtualization, the "Software plus Services" initiative by Microsoft and Software as a Service (SaaS) is ushering in a new era in which IT services can be deployed, scaled up and outward and back and inward amost as easily as it is to turn on and off the lights by flipping a switch. Indeed, it is an exciting time ahead of us and we should all look forward to being a part of it.

Back in 2003, I wrote a short piece about the possibility of utility computing being a catalyst for IT as a service. Four and a half years have passed — so I’m curious as to how many “True” and how many “False” responses you’ll get to your question.
