Since VRYCFG only sets the state of an object and doesn’t change any configuration, the *IOSYSCFG special authority isn’t appropriate. Of course, authority must exist to the object(s) being varied on or off.

If the I/O configuration is being changed, e.g., to associate a new “secure location” or to alter the system’s hosts table to redirect connections to a different IP address, then *IOSYSCFG is needed.

Other special authorities, e.g., *JOBCTL, might be needed if other areas are affected such as ending jobs associated with a *LIND.

WOW – In the original question I’m only asking if IOSYSCONFIG is required to Vary on lines, devices, (printers) and Ctl’s.

I was able to test using a newly created profile with only *JOBCTL and *SPLCTL and was able to perform the VARY ON / OFF of devices, printers, and lines.

Still have no clue about the *YES and *NO and all that. Thx for the input.

I’m sorry if you can’t see it but it’s still there on “Note” after, for example, RESETSYS parameter values.

BTW I don’t care about points, I just do it to help people.
