Is antivirus software dead?

Well, maybe. Our expert on SearchSecurityChannel.com just posted a response to a question about it. He says that future antimalware software solutions will use telemetry and behavioral analytics to detect and prevent malware.

What do you think? Does antivirus (or antimalware) have a future? And can it do anything to stem concerns about virtual security?

In reference to the statement, "Future antimalware software solutions will be based upon a distributed and multi-tiered deployment from the "cloud" to the endpoint".
I dont see how this can ever come about on the Internet as it exists now.
You would have to get everyone, including the AntiMalware vendors to agree on a policy for procedures and actions.
I cant see everyone accepting a policy such as this due to many different goals and objectives concerning computer and online security.
I hope it does come to pass though. The casual user gives very little thought to their safety until its too late.
