I am working in a data migration team on SQL Server. I am planning to do the Microsoft certified database administrator (MSDBA) course. Please let me know if this certification matches with the line of work I am doing, or if there is a more preferable certification that would contribute to my SQL Server work experience.

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

The MCDBA certification is pretty old at this point, as it is for SQL Server 2000.
You will want to look at these certs instead.

SQL 2005
MCTS: SQL Server 2005
MCITP: Database Administrator
MCITP: Database Developer

SQL 2008
MCTS: SQL Server 2008 Setup and Configuration
MCTS: SQL Server 2008 Database Development
MCITP: Database Administrator 2008
MCITP: Database Developer 2008

More information about these certifications can be found on Microsoft’s webpage.

Dear Sir or Madam: Mr. Denny is absolutely correct. The MCDBA is clearly at the end of its life cycle. You should let your preferred SQL Server version guide the specific credentials in the MCTS (Microsoft Certified Technical Specialist) and MCITP (Microsoft Certified IT Professional) realms. Beyond that, I can't really add much to this discussion except to thank the previous poster for providing such a thorough answer. The only thing I might point out, however, is that you can find the details and requirements for all of these certifications through the Microsoft Learning Certification Overview and related Web pages.
