I want to start off by saying Hi this is my first post. I'm desperate for answers and I can't seem to find anyone that knows this question.
I have 2 Windows 2008 r2 servers.
One is Server1 and the other Server2
I have IPv6 enabled as well as IPv4
Both are set to static address 192.168.0.1. and 192.168.0.2
IPv6 is set to fd00::1 and 2
NETBIOS is DISABLED! This is where I'm confused
I try to find server2 from server1 and get a response back in IPv6 fe80%12
My question is how does it know the address just by typing server2 with Netbios disabled??
I also always get a response fe80 even with Netbios set to default.
My book I'm reading says I should receive a message indicating that the ping request could not find the host. Ipv6 by itself does not facilitate name resolution....
