Investigating SQL Server 2005 memory issues

SQL Server memory
We have a data warehouse server running SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition. Lately, after a restructure, we're seeing some performance hits. If this is due to what was added during that rebuild, we have no problem with it. However, we are not sure. When a query is run, the disk queue fluctuates greatly, but a lot of memory remains free. We're collecting some counters now, but once we have the data, what conditions can we look for?

If the disk queue is fluctuating greatly that can be a couple of things.

1. The query isn’t correctly optimized and you need to add some indexes to the tables.
2. There is something wrong with the disk array(s) which needs to be addressed.

Odds are it’s #1. What does the execution plan show you?

How much RAM is in the server? What size is the database? Is the server x86 or x64?
