Depends on what you all want and/or need to do. It could be as easy as using EXCEL or ACCESS

Welcome to ITKE, Geoffrey815! Is there a particular software/hardware that you are looking to use for your inventory?

It seems that the spam filter caught my post. Take a look at Spiceworks (google it, it seems that links are not allowed here).

Depends on how you are doing the inventory.  If there is a barcode sticker on your equipment, then you can use a barcode reader and software that comes with it to do the inventory.  If not, then you will need to do it the old fashion way, with the inventory in hand, and reading each and every serial number off of the equipment and checking it off.  If you do it this way, you can create a database using Access or a spreadsheet with Excel.  Your choice.
