 Intranet Problem
Intranet, Network connectivity, Proxy servers
Hi,

 My firm is very small and i am planning to start a intranet. Well all goes well when internet is not working. I made a website in my local lan (helpdesk.com- say),and everyone is able to open this website. But when internet is provided to the users, no one can acess the website but rather proxy server open website from internet as www.helpdesk.com, please help how to solve the problem.

From what you are explaining, it seems that when you connect to the internet, your DNS is routing you to the internet for helpdesk.com. Do you have a Domain Controller on your LAN? If so, you can make a DNS entry in there for helpdesk.(your domain) that your users can go to. Another option is you can just have them go to the ip address and then save it into their favorites with the name "help desk". If you provide more information on your LAN setup and what kind of servers and services you provide on your LAN, other options might be available as well. Ryan Gunther www.onlinetech.com

Team, my one more concern. one of my pal told me that to change helpdesk.com to helpdesk.dept so that your proxy cannot find this over internet and in the end it talk to your local dns server. When we write .com it actually searches internet.

Please tell me how far is it true.

Thank you all………….. i have done it.. :-) . My intranet is working and on rolls.

(tools->internet options->connections->lan configuration->advanced->exceptions) was the crack to the problem.
