hello
I just bought New VA10 sony notebook for my teenage son, there is LAN installed and Internet access, there is no account on the va10 notebook,
but still he connected to internet, i think through another computer
but i want to find out how he connected himself wireless OR through another computer if he does not have an account. Maybe he used pclinq or usb cable.
I just do not want that he wonders to some not so friendly web sites if you know what I mean.
we also have a regular pc dell with windows at home, is there anyway possible to monitor his internet activities from my homecomputer ( maybe thats impossible), is there a software outthere for that?

If he has internet access without an account then it might be from leeching off someone else's wireless router who lives nearby. Most people set up their new wireless router with default settings making it an unsecured connection that anyone in range can tap into. If you are looking to monitor his internet access, it would depend on how you get internet connectivity. If you are an aol subscriber there are tools built into their software. If you use another dial-up service check with them about what is available. If you have broadband then I would suggect a firewall such as ZoneAlarm or EZ Armor (Computer Associates) with web content filtering. There are other content filtering/monitoring solutions out there but these products provide firewalls and anti-virus protection in them saving you from having to buy 3 separate applications.

There are two very simple ways for him to access the internet: through your router and through a neighbor’s unsecured wireless. You certainly need him to connect through your router. Set up your router to log activity,
and if you use AOL, you might want to require connection through their accounts, or you can sign up for parental control accounts with your router’s manufacturer. And,
make sure to change your router’s password!
If you use Norton Internet Security on his computer, you can set up parental controls. If you want these to work, you will need to password protect NIS’ settings.
