 “Insufficient memory”
Dear Friends,

Could you please help me?

I have a router cisco 1751. It's flash is about 16 MBSize.

I installed it's IOS of size 11Mb. in it's flash. After installstion when I reboot this, It is not becoming Up and goes under Rommon Mode.

It is detected IOS and booted, when booting process complete it shows #################################################### (OK).

After this a error massage arrived saying "Insufficient memory" and again router prompt me in Rommon mode. Also we can not delete it's flash in Rommon mode, so that new IOS may installed.

Kindly take it's solution and also tried to take it from [strong]Linkdn.com[/strong]

Answer Wiki:
You have 2 kinds of memory in the router - Flash (may be on the CPU board or an external CompactFlash module), and RAM. Normally when you get the requirements for a given release of Cisco's IOS, you have a Flash minimum and a memory minimum size. You probably have an IOS that can fit on the flash card, but doesn't have enough memory to run. You have some options: 1. Get more memory for the router 2. Replace the IOS with a simpler train (either an older one, or one with less features). Frequently, IP Base (typically the smallest) will take about 1/2 the memory of something like an Enterprise or IPServices; Encryption and voice capabilities may also extend the minimum operating requirements.

It sounds like you went outside the given hardware specification with the software upgrade/installation. Otherwise, read the manual again.

Agrees with what snapper said.
