Server 2003 alone does not have an instant messenger service, no. There is <a href="http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/communicationsserver/default.aspx?ofcresset=1">Office Communications Server</a> which will provide this service for you, but of course it does cost money.

most of these tools have free trial and don’t require a server.
or you can go download those application like yak and install it on a pc and you can chat all you want

I use Google Talk for instant messaging – and can easily switch it over to voice calls when typing just can’t keep up to the speed of the conversation
