I am getting an error when attempting to install Crystal Reports 9.0. The InstallShield window opens and it goes through the motion until it tries to extract a MSI file (ISSScript1050.msi) then the following error message (in an InstallShield window) occurs: "1608: Unable to create InstallDriver instance, return code -2147221164". Crystal Reports is used for the report function of an accounting application used to calculate depreciation. When we generate the report and try to print, we get various messages that the application can’t open a particular file (crpe32.dll). We contacted the software vendor's phone tech and have been constantly told that this error is on our side and related to permissions. We find this very difficult to believe because my profile has administrator rights. Permissions should not be the problem. We also checked the virus scan to make certain that wasn’t preventing those files from installing. We also reimaged the computer, but continue to receive the same installation error. It is interesting that we have been able to install this application correctly on two other computers and it works fine on those computers. But we need for it work on this particular computer (i.e. mine). I had considered cloning one those computers, taking off the applications aren’t needed, then trying to install this depreciation software to see if that would work but that would create more work and, quite frankly, its doubtful that my IT peeps would be open that idea unless if they knew it was going to work. I can email screen shots of the errors. Any help would be most appreciated. We aren’t getting anymore input from the vendor (they actually asked us to call them back once we figured it out), I really would like this software to work (it’s part of a suite), and our IT department isn’t sure what else to do.
