Definitely no activity light should be expected until something else is broadcasting in the same protocol sets of your card. Same is true with wired networks, no LED until another device speaking the same protocol can be heard.

Perhaps there are no other wireless routers within range. The only time you would be seeing an activity light is when there is some activity. Right now the card is sitting there waiting for a signal. No signal = no activity.

Get your router up and running, and you should see activity when it connects.

I agree with pcprint; what specific error message did you get? Un-install the software from your PC and reboot then follow the procedure to have the router up and running then install the wireless.

I'd certainly try hooking up the router before you get too worried (it will need to be setup at some stage anyways).

The lack of an activity light may just be because their is no network/other machine to have any "activity" with.

You mentioned you received an error can you be specific with exactly what this error was?
