How do you install SQL Server 2000 on Windows XP Professional?

You will need to install the Developer, Personal, Evaluation, or Express editions on Windows XP. Standard and Enterprise edition can not be installed on Windows XP.

Do you want to install the server software ?
What version of sql server 2000 are you trying to install ? Some versions are not meant to be installed on a client operating system, so if you try to install Enterprise edition, you will get a message saying that you can install only the client software.
