Re-formatting is "ideal" but sometimes not practical. Have you tried any other tools to remove it? What problems are you having with disabling system restore? Please perform as mentioned above . Also try this url it is having some information related to ur probelm. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic183604.html if the above is also not working try to recover the operationg system with the help of dell helpdesk.

We reformat all infected machinces in our network. You will spend more time trying to clean a virus usually than just formatting it and starting over. I know this is a pain but it is the only way to know for sure that your machine is clean and your network is safe.

Thank you both for answering. I didn’t have admin rights to disable system restore. The anti-virus scans kept showing different Trojans and then lying and saying they were quarantined or successfully deleted. After about five scans (in safe mode) the computer wouldn’t even load Windows. It was toast and had to be reformatted.

Sorry to hear about the troubles Margaret….Let this be a learning experience for everyone to backup those laptops on a frequent and consistent basis. It’ll make recovering from something like this much less painful.

I just read today (and can’t find it at the moment) that something 90+% of laptops are not backed up. Even if you have to buy software (i.e. Acronis TrueImage, etc.) and an external hard drive to backup your own laptop at home each night (or every 2-3 nights) – by all means do it.
