INF txtsetup.sif corrupt or missing, status 14
I was trying to install XP from a CD onto a Dell GX115. It currently has XP functioning on it. I have to reinstall because it is a donated computer and we promise to reformat the hard drive. (I volunteer at a charity that refurbishes computer for people with limited incomes). As the checking system configuration came up, the install stopped with the error "INF txtsetup.sif corrupt or missing, status 14". What I have done: Replaced the CD drive with another one known to be functioning Used another XP install CD that had just been used successfully Cleared CMOS (a suggestion from another volunteer that didn't work either) I googled and found many with the same problem but no answers (most referred to RIS installs). I also checked Microsoft Knowledge Base which listed one document but it was about uninstalling XP, not installing from a CD. Any ideas for me?

Answer Wiki:
This sounds very strange if you format the hard drive. It could be a bad hard drive, are you able to open the laptop and swap hard drives? Also run a RAM test. Another thing to check is if the CD drive is working correctly.
