Q:
Incorrect relative record number or field selection error
RPG
I get the above error when trying to run a program when it trys to write a display format. The program had been working and suddenly started giving this error. There doesn't seem to be any relative record numbers involved.
I would be happy if someone could give me a clue as to what I should be looking for. I have not seen this error before in any program. This program was written by a consultant that will only look at it for a fee. I am still trying to figure out exactly how the program works.
Until I know it better I can't rule out that data being picked up isn't causing the problem. Thanks, Pat

Does the display format contain a subfile? If so, one relatively easy check is for the maximum number of records allowed in the subfile--it may have exceeded that limit. I can help you fix for free.

After much digging I’m feeling that the problem is not in the program but there is a far larger problem in the “subsystem” of programs and files in this library. There was a power outage just before the problems started showing up. I’m going to restore the library from a version saved before that incident. Thanks for all your help. I’ll let you all know what I discover.
