When importing a table (as a means of restoring), and specify ROWS = Y, does the data in the table get overridden?

Answer Wiki

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

Hi,

The import utility will try to insert every record into the table. No data will be overwritten but added to the table (unless a constraint prevents this)

By default import will not overwrite any data in an existing table if IGNORE=N. Instead it will attempt to create the table and fail because it already exists. If IGNORE=Y and ROWS=Y then the import will proceed and attempt to insert rows into the table. If there is no unique of primary key on the table then it will be possible for import to insert rows which already exist and you will end up with duplicates. If a key exists then some inserts will fail and some will succeed.
