Looks like we found the answer.

When we access the folder via the root share we only get read-only because root is shared read-only.

When we share the target folder explicitly with read/write and access THAT share directly (map a drive or navigate through Windows Explorer) everything is fully accessible.

I am sure we used to be able to navigate the folder structure from root downwards with all access (where permissions allowed), but I don't know when this changed so I cannot say what brought the change about.

Perhaps there has been a Windows update which 'fixed' an issue where the iSeries share access wasn't enforced correctly.....

If you have Operations Navigator installed you could check the connections to the Windows Netserver.
Expand the system, Network, Servers, TCP/IP and than double click on iSeries Netserver. Some accounts could be disabled for Netserver. This is not related to the OS profile.

I had this problem once. The iSeries didn't like mixed case passwords - all upper or all lower case worked fine. This was fixed in a PTF quite a while back.

I also remember having this problem due to another XP vs ISeries issues, related to "shares".

Also, check for IFS Guest account ("netserver?") to see if it gives read access.

FWIW: My IFS folders are NOT marked "read-only"

Nothing new on the AS/400 - like you applied PTF's or something?

Other than that, have you (as in your company) recently made changes to security policies on the Windows side?

We can still access the folders, it's just that they are now showing in Windows as read-only.

We use different ID/password for mapping/navigating to IFS folders, this is how it has always been on this system, we haven't changed anything on the AS/400 side. All folder permissions are as they should be.
