Answer Wiki:
you cannot install IE on XP if you are running SP1...minimum is SP 2.. if you are using SP 2 and you fail to install it, you will need to install another patch and restart your pc and only you can install your IE8

I have installed IE8 on many computers. Never had any issues specifically with XP, although IE8 had many installation issues when it was first released. As Carlos suggests, giving us examples of what specific problems you are having could allow us to help.

Which version of IE are you installing over? And, are you installing IE 8 via WSUS or Windows Update path? I had this happen when installing from IE 6 to 8.

We had to use http://www.update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us in order to get any updates to run.
