 IDE – SATA drive combo
I followed the discussion about putting IDE drives into a system with SATA drives. I've done this successfully, but on one machine (Win XP Pro), the system constantly reboots if an IDE drive is attached to the cable marked 'slave'. I removed the jumper according the instructions on the drive. Is there a fix for this? Thanks

Answer Wiki:
You said you removed the jumper but did not say whether this resolved the issue as well. I would call the manufacturer of the drive for support. SOLUTION: Thanks! it was simply the BIOS, which was set to boot the IDE drive first; I changed it to the SATA and was then able to format the IDE drive to use as a second data drive.

Hi,

What else do you have in the machine? Is there another IDE drive?

Have you checked your BIOS settings?
IDE is a default setting to boot to.
If you want to use the SATA instead, log into your BIOS and check the boot settings. If the IDE is set to boot first, either change the sequence or disable the IDE boot, depending on what BIOS you have.
