		<description><![CDATA[Hmm... I understand that the initial outlay may put people off. IBM i (AS/400) is not cheap to buy into, however the overall cost of ownership over 3 years (say) can be much less - no DBA headcount to speak of, no complex systems management, almost no downtime, super reliability. Because the DB is integrated in the OS there&#039;s no separation of skillsets. We run an expensive machine with 300 users but the expense includes the OS and DB2, we only have one person at any one time with responsibility for supporting it, and he/she doesn&#039;t have a lot to do and generally gets on with other things (like supporting and rebooting peripheral Windows servers). No tablespaces, complex connection strategies, and it just plain works. 
Incidentally there are smaller IBM i editions nowadays that are supposed to compete price-wise. I can&#039;t say whether they do, though...]]></description>
