Answer Wiki:
Basically you need: -WLAN (Wireless) Access-point -WLAN Network Interface card for PCs or WLAN PC-Card / PCMCIA Card for notebooks But before buying said hardware you should consider WLAN standard: 802.11b : maximum bandwidth : 11 Mbps 802.11g : maximum bandwidth : 54 Mbps P.S. Here's a good whitepaper from 3COM, tad bit old but still good one: http://www.3com.com/other/pdfs/products/en_US/wireless_lans_wp.pdf

I think we need much more information on your proposed setup. It is very difficult recommend a direction without knowing what is required. How large is the WAN (what geographic area are we looking at?) What do you need to do with it? How many sites? How many users? Without more detail, I would not even begin to give advice.

Hiya mate,

Although it is not possible to comment on your query, it needs to have some more information in it as:

1. Why do want the WAN for?

2. What’s your defination of WAN and how you want to use it?

3. How much traffic, is the network expected to handle?

Well these are some of the things, which I personally would like to consider while maing such a decision.

As of now, you can visit the following website. It has good quality information on a number of related issues.

first u wud have to think if what type of connection u wud want to use(dial-up or broadband)…but i do suggest that u use broadband connection for faster speed…2nd thing that u have to consider is 2 what type of broadband?broadband typ:1.CABLE,2.DSL,3.ADSL…for cable, u have to register 1 of your pc’s ethernet card’s MAC ADDRESS and u will have to aquire from them a cable modem…for DSL, the company itself will provide you with authentication(username and password)also using their modem…i don’t know much bout ADSL for now but i think that it’s almost the same with DSL…if your in America then company’s for cable are COMCAST,COX,DIRECTWAVE…for DSL(BELLSOUTH,SPRINT,BELLSOUTH)…hope i had helped you out

WAN (Wide Area Network) defined as a Local Area Network (LAN) WITH a connection to one or more other LANs, OR a LAN WITH remote workstations.

Please tell us what you are trying to do within the above definition and we can help.

HI ALL,
WAN is combination of multiple lans,to create WAN Router is a device that connects 2 different physical lans,.
so from ur lan side configure one router and connect serial of router to external lan via ISP providers.
