iSeries Emulator works on most 400s

I am running Vista Home Premium and can connect to 15 of the 16 AS400s I have access to. However, this one lucky one will connect, but will just have a blank screen. I have a colleague that can connect to the same 400 on an XP machine with the I-Series emulator. I have tried to search Google for an answer, yet have been unsuccessful. Even found a few open source emulators that have the same issue. Obviously this is probably an issue with Vista since we all know it is so compatible and reliable. I found a few instances where people had this happening and it was a result of a conflicting session name. This is not the case here. I have even tried reducing all the visual effects of vista thinking maybe that played some part in this, but failed.

Hi,

Have you checked the system values on the AS400s? Maybe they all have QAUTOVRT setup with a number of devices or *NOMAX except the one you can’t connect to.

The fact that you can connect OK to most of them, except your one lucky machine, would suggest that the problem is with that machine, rather than your emulator software or Vista.

Regards,

Martin Gilbert.

Also check the device name setting (Workstation ID) under the communications and configure.
If the specify workstation is populated you must verify that the device name isn’t already in use on the AS400.
If so blank the field or assign a new value and try again.
