I might be creating a virus accidentally. What should I do?

This has been happening to me a lot lately...I'm writing an application in Delphi and after I compile it, my antivirus scanner is telling me that I'm actually creating a virus and it immediately deletes the executable again. It's easy to fix (by doing a full rebuild) or simply waiting but it's still getting annoying.

It's been happening with Delphi 6 and 7 and Kaspersky, McAfee, and Symantec are all reporting it. I know it all starts with Delphi because of the timestamps to DCU files. I don't want to disable my antivirus so I'm wondering about the following:

  • Do these false positives also occur with other compilers?
  • Does it also happen with .NET executables?
  • Has anyone else noticed similar problems with Delphi?
