When she installed the update for Adobe reader, it did install the Yahoo! toolbar and messed up the IE setting. When I uninstalled the toolbar, the problem is gone.
I also agree with Sidzilla regarding the DOS mode. It is what I always do if I want to test the connectivity with a web site. Sometimes the router on the way to the web site is down or extremely slow, so you are getting the time-out error message: “..cannot be displayed”

Then open a command prompt and ping mail.yahoo.com. It should resolve to the ip address and come back with a response. If it doesn’t you may have some type of malware that has altered your host file. I would recommend booting in to safe mode and running Spybot S&D, Adaware, and/or Windows Defender just to be sure, and scanning with an updated antivirus program in any case.

And just check to make sure you don’t have any spyware. If you have the Yahoo Toolbar try and uninstall it and see if there is a difference.
