Answer Wiki:
Use TeraTerm - old, but in my opinion the best of the terminal emulators. Everything Hyperterminal should have been, but wasn't. Use this for console port config and Telnet. For SSH I use PortaPuTTY - this is PuTTY but puts the key information in a file on the same directory as the application, rather then in the registry. This means you can carry it around with you, and run it from a memory stick. So you always have your connection information close at hand. For TeraTerm go to http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA002416/teraterm.html For PortaPuTTY go to http://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=18

Hi,

Your question said ‘Hyperterminal Emulator’ so that is what these programs do, they are replacements for Hyperterminal.

I now think you were asking for network simulation software to practice configuration skills ?

You could try Packet Tracer which is made by Cisco for the CCNA academy programme. It allows you to build and test quite complicated networks, but it does cost money ($120 I think) unless you are an academy student when it is included as part of the course. Boson also do one that is supposed to be quite good.

You could try to Google for ‘network simulator’ and add the work ‘cisco’ if that is what you want to practice. It will get many hits, and some may be free, or a free trial.

Hope that helps you more :-)
