 Hyper-v + iscsi storage
we use a hyper-v server which has a connection with a storage server through ISCSI,
we manage the hyper-v server with MS VMM.
when creating a machine from a template it copy's it to itself using BITS
cause of that the creating taking 45min for deployment
is there any way we can setup hyper-v or Iscsi that it knows that the destination path and template are on the same server and does not have to go over the network port ?

server1: windows 2008 R2 = DC + microsoft VMM
server2: windows 2008 R2= hyper-v server with iscsi iniator connection to server3(appears as local drive in drive management)
server3: microsoft storage server 2008
template is about 16gb ( windows 2008 machine for students)
the current servers we have dont have dedicated iscsi ports yet
so for testing purposes its on the same network

Software/Hardware used:
windows server 2008

No, the bits always have to be copied over the network from the storage server, to the Hyper-V server, then written back to the Storage Server.

EMC and VMware are working on this in VMware's vSphere 4.1 release, but it will only work with EMC storage arrays. I'm sure others will latch on to these APIs in the future but for the next year or two at least there won't be a way to fix this other than to increase the network capacity. You'll also need to make sure that you aren't maxing out the performance of the disks that are on the storage server. That will be the performance pain point before the network is.
