Q:
Hyper-V and SCVMM vs VMware ESX/vSphere
It seems that Microsoft has made significant strides in catching up with VMware. Besides cost, what would be the advantage of using Hyper-V and SCVMM vs ESX/vSphere infrastructure?

This question is from the Microsoft Virtualization Chat held on August 27th.

The biggest differentials is in-guest knowledge. VMware really looks at VMs like a black box and they are trying to manage and control them solely from that VM level. But end-users and customers don't care about the VM, they care about their applications and services. Microsoft uniquely integrates our Virtualization Management with our other tools, such as Operations Manager and Configuraiton Manager. That means that not only can be Live migration/vMotion VMs, we can link migrations to business issues, applications, and services. This is about making virtualization a part of IT and IT processes, making that true dynamic datacenter.
