When viewing Hummingbird (an eDRMS) traffic I notice that the appliation generates 7.4MB of traffic to the Home drive on the network for a 20KB word document. Hummingbird apparently uses the office defaults for temporarily storing the file. The payload of the packets is 11% and there appears to be some interference with the TCP Window suze as teh largest packets is 160 bytes. Many of the writes to the H drive contain only 2 - 40 bytes of data rather than 4096 bytes that would constitue a sector.
Has anyone seen this sort of traffic and any suggestions how to improve the application as some poor end users on a 256Kbps link with no local file store take 10 minutes to undertake a simple safe.
The vendor so far is telling us that Hummingbird is a chatty application!!!!

It does sound like it is chatty, I would get with the support folks at hummingbird and see if they can help out– though you may find they don’t recommend running it across a slow WAN Link.
