I've never tried a cross-over cable for that. I've always had a spare switch at the least. But I don't know why it wouldn't work.

How many network interfaces do you have on the AS/400? If you have two available and one already works for TCP/IP, it should be easy getting the second interface to work with a cross-over cable. It should also be fairly easy if you have only a single network interface, but you have a twinax console also.

If you have no existing connectivity, do you at least have the current configuration of TCP/IP available for your AS/400?

Your PC and the AS/400 interface will need to be configured with different IP addresses for the same subnet. If that's done, then they should be able to communicate after the cabling is in place and both systems have been restarted.

But if you don't know the existing configuration, what exactly are you trying to do? Is this AS/400 system new to you? Are you getting an initial setup going? Do you want to start the AS/400 with your PC as a console? What is it that you need to accomplish?
