I am new to AS/400 hardware. I am an RPG guy. I do not know why it is so difficult to connect to my simple PC which has XP running. You last 2 lines are the one which I am trying to accomplish. I am simply trying to get my AS/400 520 attach to my PC using client access as a console.
I do not want to make things complicated to you because we are on the other side. But I would like to tell you that it was attached to HMC but HMC is now corrupted. I just want to connect to my PC. Why I can not do it just like a normal PC using XP. Why AS/400 is so difficult to connect to a PC.
It's difficult because you're asking about connecting a major server console through a LAN port.
If the technology was "easy", then essentially anything capable of
TCP/IP could conceivably take over the console function, potentially
from anywhere in the world. The connection must be extremely tightly
Previously you apparently had a HMC in control. As such,
your server is expecting to be communicating with hypervisor software to
make a connection through that port. It's almost certain that you
aren't going to have appropriate software on your XP PC for the server
to accept any communications attempts from it. And your PC isn't going
to recognize what the server is asking for.
Regardless, a LAN
console is generally allowed (at least as long as the hypervisor isn't
needed). It simply is required to follow the directions to install and
enable it in order to make it work. Have you worked through the steps in
the Changing from one console type to another
topic in the Information Center? You'll probably want to look through
the surrounding Operations Console topics before beginning anything.
