HP LJ1022n printer configuration
Running a 270 V5R2. I have several barcode printers set up using remote writers, working fine. I have several IBM infoprint printers set up regularly working fine. I now have an HP LJ1022n that will print nothing but garbage when I set up like my Infoprint printers. Help? Answer Wiki:
this printer is a problem and you should have checked the IBM site before purchasing. Note the following: The terms "Host-based HP PCL4" and "Host-based HP PCL5e" indicate that the printer accepts an HP PCL4 or PCL5e printer data stream, but may require that the print data come through a host-based printer driver, such as a printer driver for one of the Windows, Linux? or MacIntosh operating systems. Note: Unpredictable results have been received when using LPR, PJL, SNMP with Host Print Transform (HPT) or when using either HPT or a Printer Definition Table (PDT) file with a PC5250 printer session when printing to printers that use Host-based HP PCL4 or PCL5e. If one of these configurations does not work with a printer that uses host-based HP PCL4 or PCL5e, then it is recommended to use a PC5250 printer session that has been configured to use the Windows printer driver without HPT or a PDT file. this is from the IBM site. I recommend a printer from HP that is not host based. Please read "host based" as windows based. We have quite a few HP 2210dn printers set up on our network. Some are set as writers while others have to be set as output queues as they do not respond if set up as writers. Most HP laserjets respond as long as they are set up as *HP4 (Manufacturer type and model . . . : MFRTYPMDL *HP4 )

This is a device description for a 2210dn on my network:
