Hi,
this seems like a really novice question.
I have a networked HP 3700n printer and it only prints in black & white except when i print a test page. I installed it using hp laserjet 4000 drivers - it shouldn't make a difference should it?
thanks for your help

A – YES the drivers do matter. Go to HP and download the latest drivers for the 3700. Assuming ‘Windows’, you did not say and that also matters, 2000 pro and XP printer setups include the ability to set “Print B&W” this is available even on some B&W only printers. Reasoning that it is better to force B&W than print in shades of grey, where the text and background might resolve to the same shade and be unreadable.
When you have the correct drivers installed check every tab and option to be sure you know where the various ‘preferences’ are set. Good luck.
H,
Thanks for the reply
The printer is installed on the server (win 2k) and shared out accordingally. I think this printer has a print server built in. the server is win 2k and the client machines are win xp sp2.
Surley that shouldn’t make a differenece to them – but its starnage how it only prints in black and white and not in colour!!
Thanks again
andy
Ok, let me say that this is a DC controller or formatter problem. i worked for a year as tech support for HP printers, and i mentioned such problems.
when the you print a test oage it doesnt need the formatter to print such pages, unless you are printing a word document for example, it will pass through the formatter for processing and here you problem wil appear.
I will check for insurance, if that works tell us.
Regards.
I’d check the driver. monochrome drivers will not print color prints. Use the 3700n drivers for your particular os. It could also be compatibility issues. the 3700n drivers would probably work in the 4000, but not the other way around.
