Check out www.iocorp.com. They have several devices that might fit your needs.

I've been using their equipment for years to connect Twinax devices (terminals or printers) to an Ethernet environment, and also to print IPDS to a non-IPDS Xerox copier/printer.

They have devices that convert Twinax, parallel, and serial to ethernet.

I've called them with questions in the past and they have always been very helpful and their equipment has been very reliable.

Mike, I would reccomend purchasing an IBM Network card for the 6400 from the internet and then you will need to upgrade the firmware on the printer. I had IBM come out and do this and they did it as a favor.

Some of the old ones only used LPR? or something that you couldn't print to with IPX. You might also check for firmware updates and try using WebJetAdmin.

You could try telnetting to the JetDirect box or going to the built in web server on it if it uses IP is enabled. Typically all you need to do is hold down the button on the top of the JetDirect box (I forget what it says on the button). The printer should print the configuration page showing you the current IP if it has one.

This works for the older JetDirect servers and newer ones, HP just changes how you print out the page. You may have to look it up on their site if you cannot figure out by simply playing with the server.

If it's really old, you won't get a menu, but the newer ones tell you to type the word menu when you get into the server. If you need to figure out how to set it up, type ? for a list of keywords. Even then, the instructions are not perfect. You'll either have to experiment around to get the right command and setting or read information from the HP site. It's not hard, it's just poorly documented on the help screen.

Good luck.
