HP Intergrated ESX3i default block size
Hi, I have recently installed the HP intergrated ESX3i. The install created datastores unlike the server version. The problem with this is that it creates a 1mb block size by default, thus limiting the size of your vmdk file in that datastore to 256mb, for file and print servers this is not feesable. Is it a question of creating a new datastore, moving the files over to the new datastore and then delete and recreate a new one with a bigger block size and then copy the old files back again, time consuming but I think the only way around this problem. Thanks for any input

Answer Wiki:
That's correct, the only way you can change the block size is by deleting the volume and re-creating it with a larger block size. I wrote a blog post on this subject that explains how it works. http://itknowledgeexchange.techtarget.com/virtualization-pro/choosing-a-block-size-when-creating-vmfs-datastores/
