How to test in a Unix operating system?

Software testing, Software testing and Quality Assurance (QA), Software testing models, Unix, Functional software testing

I am a test engineer and do the testing (functional) on a Windows environment. I want some information regarding Unix-based testing. How do we test a Web application in a Unix environment? What are the common differences between Windows-based and a Unix-based testing, if any? What are the prerequisites for Unix-based testing?

If you are testing a website there is basically no difference between Unix and Windows based testing. The difference between the two will come into play when dealing with fat clients not with thin clients.

Unfortunately, to answer the question accurately, I would need to know what language the application was written in, before I could tell you the prerequisite for testing the software. As for testing it, you will most likely need Apache2, as well as other pieces of software. You will need to set logging to debug mode, and a few other things. I wish I could give you a concise answer, but too much information is missing for me to give a good answer.
