How to test if I have a cloud server
I bought a cloud hosting server but the control panel looks similar to ordinary Linux hosting. How can I figure out whether or not it's a cloud server?

As far as I know, there's no definite way to know if you're using a cloud solution or not. The reason being is that the data is replicated. Cloud solutions' only purpose is redundant back ups (similar to RAID in a way). What host and plan did you sign up for?

ssh into the host and run dmesg.

You should be able to pick up some clues from the output.

I think you may be thinking about “The Cloud” as something more specific than it is. It’s not a type of server, or any particular service, location, company. The cloud as of now doesn’t have any real definition, the major players are working to define it, but for now you can count on the only items included without a doubt is the ability to interact with a system independent of location, with fairly quick response times similarly to having that service/system running on a local network. I’m hoping there is a push to be independent of hardware or operating systems, but it’s a stretch in my eyes.

What are you planning on gaining from the cloud server?
